Leadership Reflection #18: What Consulting Taught Me About Where I Belong
Over the past year, consulting taught me something I didn't expect. It helped me understand where I belong.
Through my work with nonprofits and educational organizations, I had the opportunity to help leaders think through financial strategy, operational challenges, and long-term sustainability. Each engagement brought new perspectives and new lessons.
What surprised me most was what I learned about myself. While I enjoyed solving complex problems, I realized my greatest professional fulfillment comes from being deeply embedded within an organization, partnering with colleagues over the long term, building trust, and helping create something lasting.
In May 2026, this realization led me to join Family Connections Centers as its senior finance and administration leader.
The timing of this transition has made me particularly reflective. Earlier this month, The Primary School officially concluded its final chapter. Founded by Dr. Priscilla Chan and Meredith Liu, The Primary School became widely recognized for its innovative approach to supporting children and families through the integration of education, healthcare, and family services. Being part of that mission, and having the opportunity to work alongside so many talented and dedicated colleagues, was a privilege that I will always appreciate. The school's closure has been widely felt throughout the Bay Area educational community.
The experience was also personal. My son was a member of the school's final Pre-K graduating class. Watching him celebrate that milestone while I reflected on my own professional transition was both bittersweet and deeply meaningful.
As I begin this next chapter, I am grateful for the organizations, leaders, colleagues, and clients who have shaped my journey. Consulting helped me better understand where my passions truly lie. It reminded me that while financial strategy and operational excellence matter, the work is ultimately about people, relationships, and creating lasting impact within the communities we serve.
Grateful for everyone who has been part of the journey so far. I'm excited for what comes next.
